JAN JACKSON, PH.D.
Dr. Jan Jackson serves as the Associate Vice President for Community Engagement and the Dean of Extended Learning at Cal State San Marcos where she has worked since January 2003. Prior to her arrival at Cal State San Marcos, Jan was the Dean of the College of Extended Learning at Cal State San Bernardino where she began her career in 1982.
As an experienced continuing education practitioner, Jan has specific expertise in innovative and nontraditional program design and delivery, organizational planning, marketing, international program development, community partnership development, conference and event planning and management, and financial and human resource management. In 1998, she was recognized as a “Woman of Distinction” by the Inland Empire’s Business Press.
Widely published in the field of adult and continuing higher education, Jan serves as a contributing editor for the Journal of Continuing Higher Education, and is on the editorial board of New Horizons in Adult Education, an electronic refereed professional journal.
In her community engagement role, Dr. Jackson is the University’s chief envoy to the community, a presidential appointment designed to assist the University in forging meaningful and productive partnerships with the larger community.
An involved and loyal supporter of community activities, Jan is Chair of the Board of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chair of the San Diego North Economic Development Council, member of the Board of Directors of the WORLD TRADE CENTER San Diego, and Secretary of the San Marcos Arts Council.
Jan holds a bachelors degree in English from Duke University, a masters degree in Adult Education from Syracuse University, and a doctoral degree in Education from the Claremont Graduate University. She resides in Carlsbad, California.
